A Study on Art Therapists' Self-Consciousness and Self-Efficacy

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine whether therapists self-consciousness correlates with their self-efficacy and whether their working experience has something to do with the possible correlation. For this, 210 therapists who have more than three-year career and have been performing more than 10 cases of art therapy in the field were selected to analyze data. As for the measuring scale, only general matters, career questionnaire, self-consciousness questionnaire and consultant self-efficacy questionnaire were used. SPSS 19.0 program was used to perform reliability analysis, frequency analysis, one-way ANOVA and Scheffe test and Pearson correlation coefficient for post hoc test. The findings of this study are as follows: First, self-consciousness showed a significant difference according to certificate, working years, number of therapy cases and frequency of individual analysis among art therapist's careers. Second, there was a significant difference in self-efficacy according to certificate, working years, number of therapy cases, number of therapy sessions, number of supervision and number of individual analysis among art therapist's careers. Third, public self-consciousness and social anxiety among the subfactors of self- consciousness has a significant positive correlation with self-efficacy. The findings suggest that based on art therapist's self-consciousness and self-understanding, they manage and utilize themselves very well as a therapeutic instrument in the art therapy field, who can have qualification as a competent art therapist.
